Chapter 4 Reflection- Nalezny
I found this chapter very helpful because I think organizing
a page can be one of the hardest parts of a design (at least for me it is).
Knowing how to use a grid structure will be very helpful. The reason why these
structural grids make a design look so good is because it provides harmony for
the items on the page. On page 70, figure 4-12, there is a collection of
different grids that are proportional. It is interesting how some are so simple,
and others are broken up in many places. Either way, the arrangement works for
a clear design.
I like the look of the two pages on the bottom of page 73.
The text is neatly spread on the left side and then on the right side a square
picture takes up the majority of the page. They look clean and modern. The
picture balances out the text on the other side. Also the block form of the text is mimicking the shape of the picture. It makes a pattern without the viewer even realizing it.
The more columns a page has, the more rhythm is needed to make sure
there is balance. In order to do so, the type size, line length, and leading
can be adjusted. This is just like on page 75, figure 4-20. The lines and type size are smaller in order to form an organized flow. I will make sure I use grids and balance when
I design because it forms a sort of pattern and order.
I come from more of a coding background and being in this class and other design classes this quarter have really put me to the test and the things that I can do, and create. Design is not as easy and it looks. This chapter put me to some relief to see that design can too be organized into grids and make things seem clean and organized. The pictures you chose were much to my liking as well as it shows clean grids, with font and photos arranged in the grids. Very interesting chapter overall, and your reflection is very similar to how I feel about the chapter.
